You Have a Purpose

We just finished reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret as a family.  So good!  Then we watched the movie...Equally good!  This book proves to me that great classics are still made.  :-)

Here's a quote for thought:

"Did you ever notice that all machines are made for some reason? . . . They are build to make you laugh...or to tell the time...or to fill you with wonder. . . . I like to imagine the world as one big machine.  You know, machines never have any extra parts.  They have the exact number and type of parts they need.  So I figure it the entire worls is a big machine, I have to be here for some reason.  And that means you have to be here for some reason, too."

Isabelle then asks a question we can all ask ourselves, "Then what's my purpose?"

I don't really believe in accidents.  I believe that we are where we are for a purpose, to influence and be influenced by all those with whom we come into contact.  Knowing that simple truth makes life all the more exciting for me!  I like to ask myself, "Why do I know that person?" and then spend time trying to figure it out.  Like a puzzle.  Like Hugo winding the clocks and fixing the automaton.  There is a purpose, and we get to discover just what that purpose is!
